බෞද්ධ සංඝ සංස්ථාවේ පැවැත්මම රඳා පවතින්නේ සිංහල ජනතාව මතය. මෙය ඓතිහාසික අහම්බයක් මිස දේව ආඥාවක් නොවේ. සිංහල ජනතාව යනු භික්ෂූන්ගේ පැවැත්මේ ද්‍රව්‍යමය පදනමයි — එනම් ඔවුන්ගේ දානය, අනුග්‍රහය සහ සාමාජීය අධිකාරියේ මූලාශ්‍රයයි.

අද සංඝයා භීතියට පත්ව සිටී. මන්ද, භික්ෂු සංස්ථාව සිංහල ජනතාව අතරම වඩ වඩාත් අප්‍රසාදයට ලක්වෙමින් පවතී. තමන්ගේ ද්‍රව්‍යමය පදනම අහිමි වීමේ අවදානම ඔවුන්ට දැනෙමින් පවතී.

එබැවින්, එම සංස්ථාව පාලක පන්තියේ අවි ගබඩාවේ ඇති පැරණිතම ආයුධය වෙත හැරෙයි: එනම් වර්ගවාදයයි. වාර්ගිකවාදී වෛරය සහ භේදය ඇවිළවීම සඳහා, ජාත්‍යන්තර මූල්‍ය අරමුදලේ (IMF) කප්පාදු මගින් තලා පෙළා දමන ලද සිංහල දුප්පත් ජනතාවගේ පවතින අවදානම්සහගත භාවය සහ ආර්ථික දුෂ්කරතා භික්ෂූන් විසින් ප්‍රයෝජනයට ගනු ලැබෙයි. ඔවුන්ගේ අරමුණ වන්නේ තම ෆැසිස්ට් සංවිධාන සහ සිංහල-ස්වෝත්තමවාදී රාජ්‍යය හරහා තම ආධිපත්‍යය තහවුරු කරගැනීමයි.

දැන් සංඝයා ඊළඟ පියවර තබා ඇත. විහාරමහාදේවි උද්‍යානය අතහැර දැමූ භික්ෂූන්, විධිමත්ව බලමුලු ගැන්වුණු ෆැසිස්ට් බලවේගයක් ලෙස ජාතික මට්ටමින් සංවිධානය වීමට සපථ කර සිටිති. සැලකිය යුතු මහජන සහයෝගයක් නොමැතිව, පුද්ගලයන් කිහිපදෙනෙකුගෙන් පමණක් සමන්විත නව පාගමනක් මහනුවර සිට කොළඹ දක්වා ගමන් ආරම්භ කර ඇත.

මෙය පවතින තත්ත්වයේ සැබෑ ස්වරූපය කියා පායි. තමන්ගේ වැඩපිළිවෙළ හරහා වැඩකරන ජනතාව දිනාගැනීමට නොහැකි ව්‍යාපාරයක් විසින් ඒ වෙනුවට වාර්ගිකවාදී උන්මාදයක් ඇවිළවිය යුතුය. ඒ අනුව භික්ෂූන් දැන් එන්පීපී (NPP) ආණ්ඩුව "බෞද්ධයන්ගේ සහ බුදුදහමේ සතුරෙකු" ලෙස හෙළා දකිති.

මෙය මුසාවකි — එමෙන්ම, අරමුණක් සහිතව කරනු ලබන මුසාවකි.

එන්පීපී ආණ්ඩුව යනු සංඝයාගේ සතුරෙකු නොවේ. එය භික්ෂූන් සඳහා වෙනම අධිකරණ ලබාදීමට පොරොන්දු වී ඇත. සිවුරු හැරවීමේ ප්‍රශ්නයේදී එය දින කිහිපයක් ඇතුළත යටත් විය. එය සෑම අවස්ථාවකදීම ස්වෝත්තමවාදී සංඝ බල ධූරාවලිය සනසා ඇත. සංඝයා මෙය දනී. ඔවුන්ගේ මෙම ව්‍යාජ චෝදනාව යථාර්ථය කියා පෑමක් නොව, බලමුලු ගැන්වීමේ උපක්‍රමයකි — එනම් පීඩාවට පත් වූ විපතට පත් පාර්ශ්වයක් ලෙස පෙනී සිටිමින් සිංහල සුළු ධනපති පන්තිය ෆැසිස්ට් වැඩපිළිවෙළක් වටා රොක් කරගැනීමේ මාර්ගයකි.

තම වරප්‍රසාද සඳහා සිංහල-බෞද්ධ ස්වෝත්තමවාදී රාජ්‍යය මත යැපෙන සිංහල ධනපති පන්තිය සහ මධ්‍යම පන්තිය සංඝයා වටා එක්රොක් වී සිටිති. කම්කරු පන්තිය බෙදා වෙන්කර තැබීම තුළ ඔවුනට ද්‍රව්‍යමය වාසියක් තිබේ.

ඔවුන් සියලුදෙනාම සිංහල, දෙමළ සහ මුස්ලිම් යන සියලු කම්කරු ජනතාවගේ සහ පීඩිතයන්ගේ අවශ්‍යතාවලට එරෙහිව කටයුතු කරති.

මහනුවර සිට පාගමනින් පැමිණෙන, ජාතික මට්ටමින් ෆැසිස්ට් බලවේගයක් ලෙස සංවිධානය වීමට සැලසුම් කරන භික්ෂූන් දුප්පතුන් ආරක්ෂා කරන්නේ නැත. ඔවුන් කරන්නේ තමන්ව ආරක්ෂා කරගැනීම සඳහා දුප්පතුන්ව පාවිච්චි කිරීමයි. සියලු ප්‍රජාවන්ගේ වැඩකරන ජනතාව මෙය වටහාගත යුතු අතර සැබෑ සතුරා වන ස්වෝත්තමවාදී රාජ්‍යයට, ෆැසිස්ට් කල්ලිවලට සහ ඒවා බිහි කරන ධනපති ක්‍රමයට එරෙහිව එක්සත් විය යුතුය.

The Sangha Organizes as a Fascist Force—and the JVP/NPP Government Capitulates

The Buddhist Sangha depends on the Sinhalese for its very existence. This is a historical accident, not a divine mandate. The Sinhalese are its material base of survival—the source of its alms, its patronage, its social authority.

And the Sangha is alarmed. Its institution is increasingly discredited among the Sinhalese themselves. It senses the risk of losing its material foundations.

So it reaches for the oldest weapon in the ruling class's arsenal: racism. It exploits the continuing vulnerabilities and economic hardships of the Sinhalese poor—the very people crushed by IMF austerity—to fan communal hatred and division. Its aim is to secure its own hegemony, through its fascist organizations and the Sinhala-chauvinist state.

Now the Sangha has taken the next step. Having abandoned Viharamahadevi Park, it has pledged to organize nationally as a systematically organized fascist force. A new walk has set out from Kandy toward Colombo—with only a handful of people, and no significant mass support.

This is the tell. A movement that cannot win the workers through its program must whip up communal hysteria instead. And so the monks now denounce the NPP government as an "enemy of Buddhists and Buddhism."

This is a lie—and a lie with a purpose.

The NPP government is no enemy of the Sangha. It has pledged separate courts for monks. It capitulated on the disrobing question within days. It has appeased the chauvinist hierarchy at every turn. The Sangha knows this. Its false accusation is not a description of reality but a mobilizing device—a way to pose as a persecuted victim and rally the Sinhala petty bourgeoisie behind a fascist program.

Gathered around the Sangha are the Sinhala bourgeoisie and middle class, who depend on the Sinhala-Buddhist chauvinist state for their privileges. They have a material stake in keeping the working class divided.

All of them work against the interests of the working people—Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim alike.

The monks marching from Kandy and planning to organize nationally as a fascist force are not defending the poor. They are using the poor to defend themselves. Workers of all communities must see through this and unite against the real enemy: the chauvinist state, the fascist gangs, and the capitalist system that breeds them.
